Higher transparency is needed for the so-called interest groups which control certain television or radio stations because it is not one hundred percent clear who is the owner of some of them, and media empires emerge not for commercial purposes, but for political reasons, said in this respect Britain's Ambassador to Romania Quinton Quayle. The same stance expressed the head of the European Commission Delegation in Bucharest Jonathan Scheele. The two European officials underscored, however, the media freedom has significantly improved over the past year. None of the commercial television stations has ever submitted an annual report, the only figures available being the ones included in accounting reports submitted to fiscal authorities, but they do not say much about the financing sources, show the conclusions of the report drawn up by Manuela Preoteasa. Another ticklish problem is the bad quality of the programmes of most televisions, including the public TV station, said Jonathan Scheele and Quinton Quayle.
