Launch of the NMP 'Television across Europe' followup project (Budapest conference, 7-9 June 2006)
The EUMAP/NMP reports on Television across Europe: regulation, policy and independence were launched in Brussels in October 2005. Since then, the reports have been translated and launched in 17 of the 20 countries covered by the report. The launches were accompanied by international and national level advocacy campaigns, intended to ensure that the reports' findings and conclusions reached the widest possible audience.

To mark the conclusion of this project, from 7-9th June, most of those involved with the reports' preparation (the country reporters, editing team and representatives of partner organisations), together with representatives of other relevant international and national organisations, met at a conference organised in Budapest by the Open Society Institute.
The Budapest conference was also organised to launch a new follow-up project, which will promote the realisation of the reports' recommendations in the medium-term. During the conference, participants discussed their priorities for followup activities and their ideas for optimising advocacy actions across Europe. The followup project will be lead by the Open Society Institute's Network Media Program. The Project Manager is Marius Dragomir (mdragomir AT osi.hu).

The OSI Network Media Programme (NMP) also leads a separate followup project, in which several national and transnational research activities are financed. Four of those are underway and will be completed in 2007.

The objective of the study on Indicators for Media Pluralism in the Member States was to develop a monitoring tool for assessing risks for media pluralism in the EU Member States and identifying threats to such pluralism based on a set of indicators, covering pertinent legal, economic and socio-cultural considerations.
